“What type of training should you do?
Clearly there is water practice. If you have your own outrigger canoe, you can work out without a crew. If you do not, (like most people) paddlers have to be with a team.
Outside of practice on the water, plenty of land-based exercises can help. First and foremost, cardio is key! Running, swimming, cycling, and even walking faster than normal can help paddlers get into better shape.
Paddlers interested in strength training can try planking for core strength, squats for leg strength, and weights for all-around training.
Beyond those options, kettlebells offer an overall killer work out.
Every little bit counts! Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from the grocery store, or get off the bus a few stops early whenever possible.
Anything is better than nothing!”
