FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I wear?

Wear clothing you don’t mind getting wet. The likelihood of getting wet is high so it is best to wear wicking, breathable or gortex fabric. Cotton is highly discouraged. If it is cold out try to wear layers because you will be generating heat as you paddle.

Do I need to bring my own PFD and paddle?

If you don’t have these items, don’t worry! We’ve got paddles and personal floatation device (PFDs) you can borrow for both practices and races. We don’t expect new members to have their own paddles.

How do I learn to do the stroke?

The coaches and veteran paddlers will show you all you need to know.

What is expected of me as a first-timer?

For first timers, you won’t know the stroke, or your own abilities, which is totally fine. All we ask is to give it your best effort.

How many people are on the boat?

One boat can hold up to 20 paddlers, 1 caller, and 1 tiller

I don't think that I am fit enough.

No matter your fitness level, body weight, or experience – YOU CAN DO IT!

Is there a dry place to store my things?

There is a dry bag you may place small items such as wallets, phones, and keys. Larger items such as backpacks may be left on the dock in a community locker.

Where do we meet?

We meet at the 5 flag poles right behind the RiverPlace Hotel:

1510 SW Harbor Way, Portland, OR 97201.
